Here are some quick and easy tips for developing a strong sense of motivation for learning something in your child:
1) Use/create games to teach them the subject. Tasks are perceived as easier if they are presented in a game form.
2) Incorporate things your child loves into what they’re learning. For example, if you want to teach your child addition, you can say, “If I have 3 cars and 1 truck, how many vehicles do I have in total?” Just the thought of whatever toy they love being mentioned will spark excitement in them.
3) Reward them. It doesn’t have to be anything big or obnoxious. Things such as a word of encouragement, a smile, a hug, or anything of that sort will do.
4) Do not engage in negative reinforcement. If your child makes a mistake, don’t make them feel bad about themselves. Instead, tell them to try again in a way that makes them feel supported and not like a burden.
Good luck and have fun!
